At the Branford Boase Award party last night (Thursday, 28th June, 2007), Jacqueline Wilson presented six new young writers with their certificates and prizes for winning the Henrietta Branford Writing Competition.

The winners are:

Each of the young authors won a copy of the books shortlisted for the BBA, a certificate and an expenses paid trip to the awards ceremony at Walker Books in London with the chance to meet Jaqueline Wilson and the BBA authors.

Moira Arthur, from BBA sponser Peters Bookselling Services, picked a prize draw in which Rachelle Packer, who was unable to attend the party, won £500 worth of books for her school library at Applemore College.

The competition asked budding writers to continue a story-opening written by Frances Hardinge, who last year won the Branford Boase Award with her novel FLY BY NIGHT.

The judge, Kate Jones of Young Writer Magazine, was looking for genuine creativity, expressed in originality of approach as well as technical competence and an evident enjoyment of language.
